Head Coach, Checkmat Murrieta

Profile

Coach Phillip Fitzpatrick is a 2nd degree black belt under Professor Ricardo Feliciano and one of the head coaches at Checkmat Murrieta. He began training here in 2012, where his passion for jiu-jitsu quickly grew into a lifelong pursuit. Under Professor Feliciano’s mentorship, he advanced in the art and now coaches alongside his longtime professor and friend.

As head coach, Phillip Fitzpatrick leads both the kids’ and adults’ programs, helping students develop strong fundamentals, confidence, and discipline on and off the mats. A dedicated competitor, he has earned numerous medals in Masters IBJJF tournaments, including gold at the 2025 Masters American National No-Gi Championship, bronze at the 2024 Masters No-Gi Worlds, and gold at the 2021 Masters American Nationals Gi.

He also offers private lessons for kids and adults, with many of his students achieving podium success in competition. For Phillip Fitzpatrick, coaching is more than teaching techniques—it’s about inspiring growth, resilience, and the belief that every student can reach their full potential.
